Germany's Florian Wellbrock won open water gold at the men's 10-kilometre event on Tuesday at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris.
With a time of 1 hour 55 minutes 18.3 seconds, he beat top favourite David Bethlehem from Hungary by 2.1 seconds to claim his maiden European open water title.
Bronze also went to Germany thanks to Oliver Klemet, who was 6.4 seconds behind his compatriot.
Wellbrock is also the reigning 10km open water world champion.
Olympic champion Kristof Rasovszky was only 23rd. In Paris two years ago, Wellbrock was far from the podium and finished eighth.
"I still had a little score to settle with the city so it's all the more wonderful that I managed to win a gold medal today," the German said. "Today brings me a great, great sense of satisfaction."
