Georgia baseball’s path in the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala., is now set.
The Bulldogs will be the No. 5 seed and will open play on Wednesday, May 21, at approximately 2 p.m. ET against the winner of Tuesday's game between No. 12 seed Oklahoma-No. 13 Kentucky at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
Georgia (42-14, 18-12 SEC) is coming off a series win against Texas A&M.
This is the first year for a 16-team SEC Tournament and the format is now single elimination. The tournament will run May 20-25.
The winner of Georgia’s game on Wednesday will play No. 4 seed Vanderbilt on Thursday at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The format includes four games on Tuesday and four games on Wednesday, two games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, followed by the championship game on Sunday.
“Let’s see if we can play for a little while,” Georgia coach Wes Johnson said after a 7-5 series clinching win over Texas A&M
Teams seeded 9 through 16 will open on Tuesday. The winners advance to face teams seeded 5 through 8 on Wednesday.
“You may play a few more guys, pitchers may not go as long,” Johnson said. “You’re not going to really stretch a guy like a (Brian) Curley or a (Leighton) Finley.”
