The Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Georgia Bulldogs by a final score of 4-3 during Monday’s double-elimination round of the College World Series. Georgia will now face Texas with their season on the line on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET.

Sooners starting pitcher Xander Mercurius was efficient over 7.1 innings of work against Georgia. The flamethrower recorded nine strikeouts in the victory, and Georgia’s offense as a whole struggled to score despite having eight hits throughout the contest. The Dawgs were able to pose a serious threat in the ninth inning against Jackson Cleveland following Mercurius’ departure from the mound, but Georgia was unable to tie the game despite a handful of opportunities with two outs in the ninth.

Georgia’s three total runs against the Sooners were all solo home runs despite the plethora of runners on base throughout the matchup. Kenny Ishikawa, Brennan Hudson and Daniel Jackson each went yard in the loss, with Jackson’s home run cutting the Sooners’ lead to one in the eighth inning. Jackson would then find himself with an excellent opportunity to either tie or win the game in the ninth inning just moments later, but the star catcher flew out and ended the game as a result.

Georgia now finds themselves in an elimination gamed against a star-studded Texas Longhorns club. The Dawgs defeated the Longhorns 7-1 on Saturday, but a loss in tomorrow's matchup will put an end to what has been a historic 2026 campaign in Athens.
