Preparations for the 2026 high school football season are now in full swing, with teams in Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties officially hitting the practice field for the first time July 29.
Scrimmages for tri-county area teams get underway Aug. 7, with a loaded slate of matchups carrying us to kickoff of the NCHSAA football season on Aug. 21.
Below is a list of preseason scrimmages with their date, location and time. If your team has a scrimmage or jamboree not listed, please email the date, time and location to [email protected].

CRUNCHING NUMBERS: Here are Gastonia, Shelby high school football returning stat leaders
Where: Ernest W. Spangler Stadium at Gardner-Webb University; Boiling Springs
Admission: $16 (service fee included)
Other scrimmages scheduled: Cherryville, Thomas Jefferson, Asheville Christian at Foard; Forbush at Stuart Cramer; North Gaston at CHASE, 5 p.m.; North Lincoln at Alexander Central, 6 p.m.; South Point at Lincolnton, 6 p.m.; St. Stephens, West Lincoln at East Lincoln, 6 p.m.
Where: Ashbrook High School’s William C. Eccles Field; Gastonia
Admission: $10
Other scrimmages scheduled: East Gaston, Forestview at East Rutherford, 6 p.m.
