Not official yet. The team needs to bring in a black guy (Stevie McNair?) to interview before they can publicly announce it, but that's the word on the street up here.

dumbest rule ever...if an owner is racist, have him bought out, there are enough black coaches in the league now that you can end the stupid you must interview someone black rule.
Dungy, Tomlin, Smith, Edwards, Crennell, Lewis... Who else? 6 coaches in a 32 team league is "enough"? Especially when three of those guys came out under the same "coaching tree" (they're all from Tampa and the three all worked under Dungy). Two more black coaches got shuffled out last season in Green and Shell.
I agree that the rule needs to be tweaked, especially when we're talking about first-time HCs, but I don't have a problem with owners and GMs having to give a minority candidate even a token interview (Marvin Lewis got three or four of those before he got the Bengals' job), because it improves their chances the next time around.
I'm all for diversity in the NFL coaching ranks, but I don't know if forcibly divesting owners is really the answer.
I would not be surprised to see Wade Phillips dumped and Garrett made the HC in Dallas.
So because only 6 guys are HC's right now it is a problem? Dennis Green is a garbage coach, thats why he is no longer a coach. Art shell also. I dont give a crap if your black white or green, all that matters is your skills. If owners arent looking at ti that way, buy out those owners. You should not forse everyone to interview a certain race, what about asians and mexicans? not a single HC in those races? maybe we should have each team hire a PC panel of every race to decide who coaches teams.
If anything, if I got offered a BS token interview id tell em to shove it.

Well, we're not going to see eye-to-eye on this, obviously. But I think it's worth saying that the Rooney Rule requires only a "minority interview." Thus, they could interview Norm Chow or Ron Rivera and easily clear the minority interview bar. And why shouldn't those guys get an interview? Or Mike Singletary? Even if they don't get the job, isn't the experience of going through the process (again, as Marvin Lewis did multiple times before getting the job) worth the slight amount of extra time?
The NFL isn't forcing any owner to interview a single race. They're only asking owners to look at a minority candidate. One minority candidate. The rule was put in place four or five years ago because qualified HC candidates were being overlooked and teams were going back to the retread well. One reason that I'm conflicted on this season is because it seems like a lot of new blood is coming in.
OT - I wonder if Parcells with try and sell the NFL that because Sparano is (apparently) Italian that he qualifies as a minority interview.
?
Miami interviewed Leslie Frazier of the Vikings, satisfying the Rooney rule

ESPN reported just now that Garrett has not yet accepted a Raven's offer and will interview with Atlanta tomorrow.
If that is a Mortenson-origin report, chances are it is wrong.
Baltimore is a no offense, aging defense team. Atlanta is just one big cluster****, with a dysfunctional owner. The better potential jobs would be next year in Seattle and Dallas. I don't know how much longer the Bengals put up with Lewis.
Most of the time..virtually all of the time a job opens up because a team is going south. I feel the Atlanta gig might turn out and is correctable sooner than the Raven spot.
One learns if they can make lemonade out of lemons. In the long run if Garret is worth his salt, one of those gigs might make him an even better coach.
Aside from getting a lifetime supply of tools, bug spray etc from Arthur Blank, he has the deepest, or close to it, pockets in the league.
Man, those are 2 bad jobs. Garrett might do well to hang around Dallas and wait for Phillips to get the boot next year. He really is lacking in experience.
