I’ve had about enough of the stupid padres this year.

Our best starting pitcher, Merrill Kelly, starting tonight.

Versus the Padres best pitcher. Hmmm.

Varsho is getting his weekly start (in LF).

The roof is opening at the start of the game.

It's 113 degrees out there.

I'll be leaving you in half an hour to watch the Mercury game.

Which mean I might be able to catch the last half hour of
the D-backs game. Which is OK with me, because I have
chosen to not watch every inning of D-backs games until
they start performing like a Major League team.

The Mile High City didn't count. It was like watching a
Wild Card poker game. Fifty-five runs scored between
both teams in the three games.

Andy Young with a 2-base throwing error in the top of the 1st.
Escobar is on the bench. 3B is not Young's primary position.

Kelly strikes out the side.

Andy Young with a second throwing error. Hopefully it’s just nerves, but yikes, not good.

Merrill Kelly has been dealing tonight. Our offense not so much, haha.

As I mentioned, 3B is not Young's best position.

A manager's major responsibility is to make it as simple (as opposed to complex) as possible to do the job well.

Including giving players like Cron and Varsho the chance to show what they can do, more often than sporadically.

'Way to build confidence, Torey!

Why does Lovullo continue putting his best RBI guys in the leadoff spot,
following the weaker hitting guys in the lineup?

Solo HR's don't win many games. It just encourages Torey's "strategy"
of everyone trying to hit the ball in the air.

The Mercury won, even without the G.O.A.T., Diana Taurasi, who should be back Sunday.

Yup, Calhoun with another RBI.

And Ketel with one. 3-0 D-backs in the bottom of the 8th.

And Starling with an RBI double. 4-0.

Calhoun really should be batting 4th or 5th. Starling, Peralta and Ketel, in that order, should be cemented as the top 3.

Considering the problems Escobar is having, after having led
the team in RBI's last season, I'd still rather see two of our
four most productive RBI hitters, Calhoun and Ketel, hitting
in the heart of the order with Starling and Peralta, rather
than leadoff and second.

It worked tonight, but not before the Rockies games. If it
continues working, I'll back off.

But remember, our most effective pitcher, who held a
1-run lead, was on the mound tonight. So far, only two
of our starting five can be counted on to do that.

Chafin, in instead of Bradley in a non-save situation, gives up a 1-out run
in the 9th. He was brought in to pitch to the lefties.

And Archie is up in the bullpen, again.
