Mike Brown | S

Full Name: Michael Travis Brown
Born: February 13, 1978
Scottsdale, AZ
Height: 5-10
Weight: 207 lbs.
Age: 32
Pos: S
Experience: 11 years
College: Nebraska
Drafted: Year:2000 Round:2 Pick:8, Bears
INSIDER ANALYSIS
Grade 64
Expert's Take Brown is a well-built safety with above-average speed. He possessed excellent speed as a youngster but has definitely lost a step over the past couple of years and it shows primarily in coverage and when he has to react and adjust to receiver's routes. He is a bit stiff in the hips and legs and does not break down or change directions with the ease he used to have. He understands coverage schemes and angles and does a good job of leveraging his way to the ball but there are times when he simply can't get there anymore. While he still has value to a secondary it is becoming more due to experience and leadership than to his athleticism and play making ability.

Kendall Simmons | G

Full Name: Henry Alexander Kendall Simmons
Born: March 11, 1979
Ripley, MS
Height: 6-3
Weight: 315 lbs.
Age: 31
Pos: G
Experience: 9 years
College: Auburn
Drafted: Year:2002 Round:1 Pick:30, Steelers
INSIDER ANALYSIS
Grade 56
Expert's Take Simmons is a short thick lineman with good quickness in a limited area. He has good power as a run blocker as well as anchoring versus the pass. He lacks athleticism on the second level and gets exposed in space. He is inconsistent with his techniques and needs to improve in this area to contribute consistently.

Do we really have a need for Brown? Although I am sure he is better than Abdullah.

You can never have too much depth.

I agree plus competition is Whis's SOP.

I hope they aren't UFA's, I want a decent comp pick next year.

The more O-line we sign the less likely we draft any, especially at OG or C.

Mike Brown and Rhodes starting at Safety with Adub moving to the WILB position. ducksandrunsforcover.

I just don't know if you can afford to have 6 safeties on a 52 man roster (obviously not everyone would make the team). I guess competition is best for everyone.

Sure, let's drop the 26 year old who played well last season for a 31 year old looking for a job.

glad i wasn't the only one who thought that

AW is one of the top SS in the league. Why would we want to put him at WILB and leave a void at his position, even if we sign Brown (who is just as injury prone as Bob Sanders)? There is no explanation needed as to why the idea to move him to linebacker is a bad decision. Also, Davis and Whis would laugh at the idea.

If we do sign a 3rd nickel safety, expect AW to play more in the box, but not as a permanent linebacker.

Look, I'm not saying this is a move that should be made but more of a topic of conversation.

You're half way there (see bolded).

AW is not that great in coverage in the back end. He plays his best in the box (where LB's typically are located). IIRC he ways about 230 which is what some of the smaller ILB's weigh. He is very athletic and likes to hit.

I don't think he is very good at taking on and shedding blockers so that's why we would need Cody to keep him clean.

When all is said and done I think we will see him in the box as much as possible but I agree that he won't be listed as a LBer.

According to RFA rules Lutui has until Thursday to find another deal somewhere else, of which we would then have 1 week to decide to match it or not. If Lutui doesnt find a deal by Thursday then his rights are ares no matter what and he cannot go and find another deal somewhere else, it would either be sign the deal or dont play.

So there could be 1 of 3 things going on. 1 - He is working on an extension with the Cards as we speak and doesnt want to sign the 1 year deal come in and workout and get injured. 2 - He is working on a deal with another team. 3 - He just wants an extra week off. Half the leagues RFA's still havent signed yet and most dont until the Thursday deadline. This is a none story concerning Lutui.

Our third nickle safety, that allows Wilson to move into the box is Matt Ware.

AW will never be listed as a LB but lets be honest thats what the guy is he needs to be in the box as much as possible blitzing and playing the run is where he does his damage

I think we are talking about the same thing, just using different terminology. AW is a threat in the box, but you can't move a pro bowler to a much different position based on a perceived need. That would be like putting Fitz at tight end because of our lack of talent at that position.

Currently that is correct. Brown might be competition for Ware.

Ill be honest, based on age, diminished talent and well noted injury risk, I do not think signing Brown is really going to make us better.

I think so.

The Cardinals still play at lot of 3 safety sets (I thought the scheme would have left with Pendergast). From what I read the 3 safety set allows Adrian Wilson to play more towards the line.

Brown will be brought in to battle with Matt Ware, IMO.

I wish Johnson was doing that...
