Welcome to the Morning Commute

Today we’re looking toward the future of the Mizzou QB position. And his name is Braylen Warren.

The 2027 commit rounded out a nice trip to the Elite 11 finals this weekend, starting the final day as a Top 5 performer according to the official evaluators.

Warren wasn’t as strong on Day 3, throwing two picks and getting sacked three times. Still, Yahoo Sports analysts see a bright future for him after a good performance against the nation’s top QB prospects:

The final line for Missouri commit Braylen Warren: 14/19 completions with one touchdown, two interceptions and three sacks. Both of his interceptions came late in the throwing session.

“Warren made some nice throws and continued to spin it well. Had a bad break with a pick and held on to it a little at times.”

Eli Drinkwitz continues to bring in some high-level talent behind center. But until Warren arrives on campus, we’ll have to hope Austin Simmons lives up to the billing.

With the opening rounds officially in the books, the Tigers will now shift their focus to the big stage at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Representing Mizzou in Eugene, Ore., will be the elite squad of Sam Innes, Valentina Barrios and Skylar Ciccolini. The four-day national meet is scheduled to run from Wednesday, June 10 through Saturday, June 13 at the historic Hayward Field, where the Tigers will look to cap off their historic season on a high note.

We love summer sports around here at Rock M. We just don’t always get a chance to write about them!

This is arguably the biggest hit to the Tigers’ pitching staff regarding departures thus far, as Gonzalez proved to be a reliable arm for the Tigers staff throughout the season.

The two biggest standout outings for the Cuban-born pitcher both came in big home victories for Missouri against a pair of teams who secured spots in the 2026 NCAA Baseball tournament. Gonzalez, up till his six-inning, nine-strikeout performance in an 5-2 victory against Missouri State on Apr. 7, had pitched up to 2.1 innings in relief. Both his inning and strikeout tallies were collegiate career highs for Gonzalez.

That’s four pitchers gone from Kerrick Jackson’s staff.

Ultimately, the broader picture for Missouri baseball, despite all of the aforementioned improvements, is the obvious. They fall behind in the investment aspect compared to other SEC programs — a conference in which the No. 9 seeded team in the SEC tournament is the No. 17 ranked team in the country and where 10 of the nation’s top-25 teams hold a spot.

Ultimately, as Joe Healy pointed out in his analysis of the program for D1 Baseball ($$), the Tigers finished well below .500 and were an absent non-factor in the postseason. They have a stadium infrastructure that is, in comparison to the other teams in the conference, lower in quality. He wrote, “Everyone associated with Mizzou baseball has been sent into a gun fight with a Super Soaker.”

That’s a damning metaphor.
