Florida State switched to a 3-3-5 scheme under defensive coordinator Tony White last season. There were improvements to the overall unit from the year before, and one of the key reasons why was freshman defensive lineman Mandrell Desir.

It didn't take long at all for the Miami native to make his mark on the defensive side of the ball for the Seminoles, with him flashing his ability when they defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide to start the season. His power and explosiveness were a constant on the unit all year, and it set up high expectations for his sophomore campaign.

Clark Brooks of On3 certainly has high praise for Desir. In his top 100 player rankings, he placed him at the No. 97 spot.

Mandrell Desir showed high-end twitch and marvelous efficiency as a freshman working from the inside.

Desir finished the 2025 season with 30 tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss, which led the team all freshman in the ACC. His 6.5 sacks led the team and were also tops for all ACC freshmen, and it was also the most by a freshman in FSU history. Desir registered one forced fumble, one pass breakup, and 24 pressures, which also led the Seminoles' defense.

Luckily for Seminoles, Mandrell and his twin brother Darryll, who also showed promise as a freshman, decided to return after originally entering the transfer portal. Both will be essential for Florida State to take the next step.
