Frontenac Baseball gets by Girard in thrilling late-game finish

GIRARD, KS — The Frontenac Raiders took care of business on the road versus the Girard Trojans in a 3-2 victory on the road.

The hosts jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first inning, but the visitors knotted things up during the fifth to make things interesting.

Gunner Horyna would give the Raiders its first lead of the ball game off an RBI double in the top of the sixth frame.

Girard’s Cam Smith pitched a solid ten strikeouts after 6.1 innings pitched, but Frontenac’s Grant Nickle closed things out in clutch fashion. Nickle dished two inning-ending strikeouts, while the Trojans were held scoreless for the remainder of the game after an early lead.

The Raiders went on to take game two of its doubleheader 9-3 as well.

Frontenac has now collected its third win in a row and will look to matchup with Blue Valley Southwest Thursday, May 7. The Trojans dropped its third straight loss and will look to bounce back versus Prairie View.
