TRI-CITIES, Tenn. (WJHL) – Holiday tournament action lit up gyms across the region Friday night, with semifinal showdowns, opening-round drama, and a championship matchup officially set.
At the Alpha Invitational hosted by Dobyns-Bennett, the Indians’ run came to an end in semifinal play as Gary Collegiate pulled away for a 64–54 victory.
Opening-round games tipped off at the Betsy Holiday Bash in Elizabethton, highlighted by an overtime thriller. West Ridge outlasted Grainger 69–67 in extra time, while Unicoi County edged Daniel Boone 48–46 in another tightly contested matchup. Woodberry delivered a convincing 71–46 win over Volunteer, and host Elizabethton capped the night with a win over Madison to advance.
At the Doc Maples Holiday Hoops Tournament, the Tennessee High Lady Vikings took down the Dobyns-Bennett Lady Indians 59–45, while Morristown East Hurricanes rolled past Science Hill Hilltoppers 76–41. The Lady Vikings now advance to the tournament finals, where they’ll face Morristown East on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., with the tournament title on the line.
