okay, so how do we do this?

1) we need to figure out the total expenses:

a) travel (this is variable and contingent upon where the cardinal fan hails from)
b) cards ticket (probably difficult to get one donated for first game, so this may have to be a purchase)
c) lodging (cost of local hotels - or, if cards fans don't mind bunking down w/ a fellow cards fan, maybe someone w/ a guest room would open up their hospitality. is this getting creepy now?)

2) who determines the recipient of the cardinals game grant?

a) a committee of concerned cardinals fans from the board
b) skorp
c) a committee of cardinals players (this would be the best if possible)

3) how is it determined which applicant gets the cardinals game grant?

a) lottery
b) showing of financial hardship
c) essay contest

let's tackle these issues before we move on to more logistics.

I think you've pegged most of the questions.
As far as questions 2 & 3, I like a vote by the board based on an essay contest.

so who makes up the board? do you have to be elected? by majority or quorum? who makes up the electorate? what about by appointment? is it by size of donation? what if an individual wishes to be a board member but would prefer that his/her donation is kept confidential? can a family member of a board member be an applicant? ah, the transactional attorney in me is sooo excited about these issues . . .

Just saw this - Duckjake, that is way cool.

I had fun meeting yourself and CaliforniaCard and Ouchie/Cheez when the out-of-towners make a game.

We'll take you up on that for sure. I can always use some help in trying to talk the kids who work at the golf courses into becoming Cardinal fans.

Can do, let me know what day and time the tee-times need to be scheduled for and I'll handle it. And I'll help you with turning the kids into Card fans.

Dang! I left my set of golf clubs along with most of the ligaments in my left shoulder somewhere in Baltimore during the sixties.

Moral: If you want to have a shoulder that works when you are older, do not play softball using a rake for a bat.

I for one can personally vouch for Duckjake, he has been kind enough to take me to a couple of games with him over the last few years since I have been financially strapped out. Thanks again DJ!

On a side note I am happy to say I finnaly have some financial freedom (had a car accident and got a nice settlement from the car insurance place allowing me to pay off some of my credit cards and get my financials back in a decent order) so I expect to be coming to pretty much every game this year. Cheap seats still but will definitly be nice to have the opportunity to see every single game with other cards fans either live at the stadium or on tv at the bar. :)

Just let whoever wants to make the trip post as to why.

Then we run a poll and whoever wins gets to show for a game.

As for costs: air from just about any big city airport is $200-$225 to PHX incl tax and fees. Most large cities have direct flights.

3 star hotel rooms at sky harbor go for as little as $38 per night plus tax. We usually get a Suite for around $50 so guys don't have to sleep in one room. Rooms are so cheap through Nov. that I don't even stay at my Brother's vacation home in Johnson Ranch because it's too darn far to drive.

Cars are expensive because of the 287% tax :D . But for 4 days incl tax and fee a full size is just under $200. For instance our SUV for the opener- pickup Sat. return Wed am is $250.

Of course we all know what game tix cost and you'll need about $40 for 3 beers and a hot dog and $400 for Cardinal souvenirs.

Hey, coming out to the games and hangin' with the Derminators is always cool, Jane. But not as cool as your hat.

See you at halftime on the 19th I hope.
