The Los Angeles Rams struggled to close out games defensively to end the 2025 regular season and that struggle manifested into late-game failures against the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks during the playoffs. The Rams are mostly set with their roster moving forward into 2026, but another pass rusher could be the key to hoisting the Lombardi.

Pro Football Focus named free agent Joey Bosa as their best closer in the NFL, stating his performance in the fourth quarter and overtime was the highest graded output in the league last season.

"There may not have been a bigger gap between early-game and late-game performance in 2025 than the one displayed by Joey Bosa," wrote PFF's Daire Carragher. "After several injury-shortened seasons, it is fair to wonder whether his peak years are behind him, yet he still looked like a game-changing pass rusher once the fourth quarter arrived.

"Bosa earned a modest 59.5 PFF grade across the first three quarters of games last season before erupting for a 91.8 PFF grade in fourth quarters and overtime.

"Of Bosa’s 54 total pressures in 2025, 23 came during fourth quarters or overtime, along with three of his five sacks. His pressure rate jumped dramatically from 11.2% through the first three quarters to 22.6% once the fourth quarter began. Only Aidan Hutchinson generated pressure at a higher rate in those situations."

The Rams were unable to generate consistent pressure with their various rotations along the defensive line, especially as the season went on. Fatigue played a factor, as did the rest of the NFL deciding to use a run-at-all-costs attack against the Rams that paid dividends. The Rams simply did not have the numbers to respond.

Bosa serves as an instant solution who can turn it on late in ballgames. He lived in Los Angeles during his tenure with the Chargers, so that wouldn't be an issue, and Bosa wouldn't need to be used early in games, allowing him to save his best for clutch situations.

Bosa has refused to take a pay cut and will demand top dollar, something that will limit the Rams' ability to add him. His brother playing for the San Francisco 49ers could play a factor in signing him, as well. However, Bosa is another weapon in a league-wide arms race, a race that the Rams do not have a steady lead in.
