Wow. What an excellent article. Thoroughly enjoyable. I think we could do with a little more of this type of observation and journalism.

Good article. Marion is a freak, he does everything statistically is the best player in the NBA all around. He's ranked number 1 in my fantasy league with the numbers he's putting up this year. He needs to get that mid range shot going again. The Spurs seem to have his number because Duncan is constantly stuffing his shots and putbacks in the lane. I say play the outside game against the Spurs since they pack the lane.

Actually the Spurs are one of the few teams that try to guard Amare one on one so they can pressure the outside shooters. The reason the Suns had so many shots blocked was because the Spurs dared the Suns to drive on them and then blocked the shots.

In any case, the last game the Suns were short handed and got worn out. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

It is articles like this that reinforce my opinion that Shawn marion should be untouchable as far as trade talks go with the suns. Shawn Marion is so underapreciated sometimes on this board and I usually don't understand why. If Amare took Marion's example and crashed the boards like him, and played defense like him Phoenix would be the odds on favorite to win the championship with everyone and not just some of us diehard Phoenix suns fans.

On a different note, I think that the Suns #1 priority this summer should be keeping this starting 5 together. We can always retool the bench but if we lose ANY of this years starting five it will be a step backwards.

Marion received a max contract a year and half ago, which is very unusual for guy who is not a first option offensive player. The complaint was that Marion was not able to create his own shot. The argument was never whether Marion is any good, just whether he is overpaid.

Early last season Shawn did not shoot and there were several players with smaller contracts who were putting up very good numbers. This year the discussion has changed since Marion is almost ideal for the Nash led Sun's offense. Also, the contracts for people like Richard Jefferson suggest that maybe Marion's contract is not so far out of line after all. In any case, Marion will always be under a microscope as long as he is the team's highest paid player.

He ain't called "MATRIX" for nothing!

Does this mean we have to change his name now to FREAK MATRIX or MATRIX FREAK??

Great article.

Nice article about Manu also..

But about Marion, D'Antoni nhas specified it so much times this season how much Marion factors in to Suns success. He scores almost 20 points without a single set play for him, he upped his rebounding since Amare is more focused on the offensive end, he has been blocking/stealing the ball in clutch moments that lead to suns winning the game...

The guy is a Pippenesque player that is understated by a lot, the best 2nd guy in the league in my opinion. Put him next a LeBron or a Kobe, or other stars in the league and he'd do the same thing. Its fortunate that suns have him, and I think for us to be a contender, Marion is that x-factor that brings in the goods.

Welcome aboard.

Last night was another example of why Marion is so valuable. 17 rebounds.

I have come to that conclusion as well, he is untradeable. I was a big proponent of trading him for Tracy McGrady over the summer, but in retrospect I much rather have Marion's indescribable skills and attitude over McGrady's any day. I think the Suns also looked through the telescope (bigger picture) vs. the microscope in backing out of the deal with Orlando last year. Even if their offer was strickly McGrady for Marion, I am glad that they did not pull the trigger.
