Franklin Arias and Kristian Campbell have both spent time as top prospects in the Boston Red Sox organization.

And right now, they're both at Triple-A Worcester, a step from the major leagues.

They aren't traveling the same path, though.

Arias just arrived at Worcester this weekend from Double-A Portland, his first chance to play at Triple-A as he rockets up the minor league ladder.

The Red Sox are hoping Arias is their shortstop of the future, and they're hoping the future is soon.

Campbell, on the other hand, got the eight-year, $60 million contract at the start of the 2025 season, struggled some, got sent down and hasn't returned yet.

Right now, Boston has him playing left field at Triple-A just to add some versatility to his game.

Things can change quickly in baseball. Less than two years ago, Campbell had hype surrounding him that wasn't dissimilar to what Arias has now.

But now, the Red Sox are simply hoping Campbell can turn it around, while Arias is the shiny new phenom.

Ironically, this weekend, Arias struggled. He went 0-for-8 with a pair of strikeouts in his first two Triple-A games.

And on Sunday, Campbell stayed red hot, going 2-for-3. He's hitting well above .300 in July as he finally has found his swing again.

Both could still factor into the future in Boston, although Campbell is an example of how it isn't always a straight line, even for well-regarded prospects.

For now, Worcester fans get to enjoy this talent in front of them at the Triple-A level.

Arias and Campbell both want to get to Fenway Park, though, and they're each traveling their own journey to arrive there, whether for the first time or for a hoped-for return.
