Eintracht Frankfurt have dismissed coach Dino Toppmöller, the Bundesliga club said in a statement on Sunday.

After Frankfurt snatched a stoppage time 3-3 draw at Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Friday, board member for sport Markus Krösche reportedly held a meeting with the main committee of the supervisory board to discuss Toppmöller's future on Saturday.

"Following intensive internal evaluation, we in the sporting management and collectively on the board have come to the conclusion that we need a fresh impetus due to the downward trend in recent weeks," Krösche said.

"So far this season, we have not lived up to the ethos of Eintracht Frankfurt standing for dynamic, aggressive and compact football."

Under-21 head coach Dennis Schmitt and U19 coach Alex Meier will take over the team on an interim basis, with Schmitt taking the lead role, Frankfurt said.

Toppmöller arrived in Frankfurt in the summer of 2023 and took over as head coach from Oliver Glasner, with whom Frankfurt won the Europa League in 2022.

Last season, Toppmöller led the team to their first-ever qualification Champions League with an attractive style of attacking football.

However, in the current season, the team has failed to build on its performances from the previous season.

Above all, Toppmöller has been unable to solve the team's defensive problems: in 18 league games, Frankfurt have already conceded 39 goals.

And with only one win from their last seven league games, Frankfurt, in seventh spot, are also in danger of losing sight of the European places.

"I would very much liked to have carried on working with this team and continued to face the challenges that we have," Toppmöller said.

"However, I accept the decision. I've come to Eintracht every day with great passion and joy, and regardless of the current unsatisfactory situation which undoubtedly exists, I am proud of what we achieved together over the past two and a half years."
