One of the Mavericks' top assistant coaches from last season is moving on.
According to multiple reports, Frank Vogel is set to join the Golden State Warriors' coaching staff and will serve as the associate head coach under Steve Kerr. Vogel joined the Mavericks' coaching staff last year as an assistant under Jason Kidd and spent the 2024-25 season as a coaching consultant in Dalllas.
Vogel brought a wealth of head coaching experience to Dallas' staff, as he has previously served as the head coach of the Pacers, Magic, Lakers and Suns and guided Los Angeles to the 2020 championship in the bubble. After new Mavericks president Masai Ujiri moved on from Kidd and hired Dusty May from Michigan, Vogel will now move on to a new coaching staff.
May's assistant coaching staff is still taking shape. Former Pelicans coach Willie Green is the lead assistant, while May has also brought in Joe Boylan (who is coaching the team's Summer League squad) and ex-NBA guard Garrett Temple.
Kidd hired three new lead assistants last year: Vogel, Jay Triano and Popeye Jones. All three are reportedly moving on.
While May's first coaching staff in Dallas is still a work in progress, it appears there won't be many holdovers from the Kidd regime.
