Anna-Lena Forster claimed the first gold medal for Germany at the Milan/Cortina Winter Paralympics.

Forster won the women's para-alpine skiing downhill on Saturday to claim the fifth Paralympics gold medal of her career, first in the downhill discipline.

Audrey Pascual of Spain claimed silver and Liu Sitong of China took bronze.

Forster was the second to ski and wasn't very satisfied with her race.

"The result is perfect, but the race itself was very wild. I had a few slip-ups where I thought: Oh God, you really can't afford to do that," she said.

On the first day of competition, Germany also took biathlon bronze thanks to Anja Wicker. Oksana Masters won gold ahead of United States team-mate Kendall Gretsch.

"That was a close race. I'm glad I made it," Wicker said.
