Former Wisconsin assistant coach Thomas Hammock is joining the Seattle Seahawks as their running backs coach, according to multiple reports.
Hammock has spent the last seven seasons as head coach at Northern Illinois. He went 35-47 during those seasons, highlighted by a 9-5 2021 campaign, an 8-5 2024 season that included a road win over No. 5 Notre Dame and three bowl appearances.
The veteran coach began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Wisconsin from 2003-04. He then returned to the Badgers as their running backs coach from 2011-13, leading a room that included program greats Montee Ball, James White, Melvin Gordon and Corey Clement.
Hammock joins a Seahawks franchise that is fresh off a Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots. Former Michigan State star Kenneth Walker III headlines the team's running back room. He's also joined by former Michigan and UCLA standout Zach Charbonnet.
Hammock is one of several former Badgers to find new coaching opportunities this offseason. Program great Jim Leonhard joined the Buffalo Bills as their defensive coordinator, then built a support staff with strong Wisconsin connections.
Wisconsin itself saw some staff changes, including wide receivers coach Jordan Reid leaving for the NFL.
