A former Washington receiver really believes veteran wideout Stefon Diggs will finish his career with the Commanders.
Pierre Garcon spent his first four seasons with the Colts (2008-2011) before wearing the Burgundy and Gold from 2012 through 2016. In his last two seasons in the NFL, he was with the 49ers (2017-2018). He spoke with "Grant & Danny" of 106.7 The Fan briefly on Wednesday
Garcon said he still likes what he sees out of Diggs and believes it would be a good thing for both Diggs and the Commanders if Diggs were to come to play in Washington. "He brings a lot of energy on the field," expressed Garcon.
Garcon spoke of how Diggs can still be such a threat to a defense. Despite the fact that Diggs appears to burn bridges and wear out his welcome, Garcon believes Diggs would bring leadership to the Commanders. "He has the leadership. He wants to be here, and that is one of the great things about it; he's hungry, it's a perfect fit."
Pointing to the New England turnaround in 2025, which saw them win the AFC championship, Garcon said, "He's a major reason the Patriots went to the Super Bowl." It's true that Diggs had a very good year, as he collected 85 catches. Garcon sees that Diggs needs a good place, and Washington needs a productive receiver. "It would be a good idea for both sides."
Garcon had tweeted about Diggs coming to Washington on Tuesday, but when asked if he actually had any intel, he did quickly admit, "No I don't have any insights, I don't know him personally." Yet as an observer of the NFL and former NFL receiver, Garcon spoke confidently, "I believe this will happen."
Garcon pointed out that Diggs naturally would like to end his career here, near home, having been born in Gaithersburg, Md., and playing for the Maryland Terrapins. He also felt like having a quarterback here, like Jayden Daniels, is also incentive enough for Diggs to want to end his career with a year or two in the Burgundy and Gold.
Whether this happens or not, Garcon clearly knows something about playing receiver in the NFL. He learned under Peyton Manning with the Colts for his first four seasons in the NFL. He registered career highs in the 2013 season, leading the NFL in targets (181) and receptions (113) as a Washington Redskin.
