It's been a good week for veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs. On Tuesday, Diggs was cleared of all criminal charges in a case where he was accused of assault in a case involving his former personal chef. Now, the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver can focus solely on playing his 12th NFL season in 2026.

The Washington Commanders were immediately named a potential landing spot for Diggs. It made sense. Diggs is a native of Montgomery County, Maryland, having played collegiately at the University of Maryland. The Commanders need another starting receiver opposite Terry McLaurin. While much of this offseason has been centered around Brandon Aiyuk eventually landing in Washington, he remains under contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns last season for the AFC champion New England Patriots. He proved he can still play. New Commanders defensive end Charles Omenihu quickly went to work recruiting Diggs to Washington. Diggs posted his stats from last season on Instagram this week, asking his followers: "Where we going?"

Several NFL players responded, so did Omenihu: "Burgundy & gold," he wrote.

Diggs noticed — and responded.

On Friday, one potential option for Washington at receiver came off the board when former 49ers starter Jauan Jennings signed a one-year deal with the Vikings. According to ESPN's John Keim, the Commanders never showed any real interest in Jennings. A Deebo Samuel return doesn't seem like an option either.

It could be all about Aiyuk for Washington. After all, the Commanders have much better depth around McLaurin in 2026 than last season, including rookie Antonio Williams. However, if Washington desires a short-term veteran option, a motivated Diggs could be a good choice.
