The Pittsburgh Steelers' countdown to kickoff is full steam ahead for the 2026 NFL regular season, with fans needing to wait only 69 more days until the Steel City brand of football returns when the Steelers host the Atlanta Falcons on September 13.
In the spirit of the countdown, we at Steelers Wire will take a look at the history of the No. 69 jersey and analyze which player wore it best.
There are two No. 69 wearers on the Steelers roster: DT Sebastian Joseph-Day and OL Lorenzo Thompson.
Joseph-Day, an eight-year NFL veteran with over 100 games of experience, joined the Steelers this offseason on a two-year deal.
Thompson, who signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2024, signed with the Steelers on a reserve/futures contract in January 2026. He has yet to make his NFL debut.
While Jerry Hillebrand and Ariel Solomon were solid runners-up, the greatest No. 69 in Steelers history is the one who got away: offensive guard Kevin Dotson.
Drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Louisiana, Dotson quickly emerged as a starting caliber guard during his first three years with Pittsburgh. He appeared in 39 games and made 30 starts from 2020 to 2022.
In 2023, Dotson, a 2024 fifth-round pick and a 2025 sixth-round pick, was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a 2024 fourth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
Dotson picked up where he left off with the Rams, putting together two back-to-back spectacular seasons and was considered by many to be a Pro Bowl snub.
