One former New Orleans Saints wide receiver could be suiting up for the opposing team when they kick off their season with the Detroit Lions in September: Cedrick Wilson Jr., who signed with the Lions earlier this week. Wilson inked a two-year contract with the Saints in 2024 but only caught 20 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown across 15 games. He was initially bumped down to New Orleans' practice squad last August but returned to the Miami Dolphins after Tyreek Hill's season-ending knee injury.
Now he's trying his hand with the Saints' Week 1 opponent. Wilson's presence may not give Detroit much of an edge, even if he is intimately familiar with Kellen Moore. He was teammates with Moore on the Dallas Cowboys and saw the start of Moore's coaching career firsthand. They also share an alma mater at Boise State. But Wilson will be working to earn a roster spot, not to divulge any secrets from Moore's playbook.
Still, it's another common connection to keep in mind when the Saints and Lions square off at Ford Field later this year. Lions coach Dan Campbell came up as one of Sean Payton's proteges in New Orleans, and plenty of former Saints players and assistant coaches have made stops in Detroit over the years. Maybe Wilson gets an opportunity to strike back at a team that gave up on him when it's all said and done.
