In the 2010s and 2020s, Mikey Williams burst onto the scene, electrifying the prep basketball circuits by dunking at 12 years old, scoring 77 points as a freshman, and signing an endorsement deal with Puma at age 17. The former high-level recruit has had a rocky road through high school and college, both on and off the court, but his latest turn takes him to a place with professional experience: Sacramento State, where Mike Bibby and Shaquille O'Neal have recently taken jobs.

Williams told Shams Charania on Tuesday that he has committed to transfer from UCF to Sacramento State, where he will play under new head coach Bibby and new general manager O'Neal.

He'll be looking to accelerate his growth after appearing in 18 games last season as a redshirt freshman for UCF, averaging 5.1 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. It was a steep drop-off from high school, where he averaged 23.8 points, 9.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game as a senior in 2022-23 at San Ysidro and committed to Memphis.

Williams, who pleaded guilty to one felony charge in a gun case, did not play for Memphis but instead redshirted his freshman season.

Shaq, the legendary NBA center, was announced as the Sacramento State general manager on Monday. According to ESPN, it's an unpaid, voluntary role, and his son Shaqir O'Neal will play for the team. Bibby was head coach of Shadow Mountain High School (Phoenix) from 2013-19, where he led the team to five championships.

Sacramento State hasn't had a winning record since 2019-20, but with Williams, O'Neal, Bibby and Shaq, the Hornets will be worth watching.
