A former standout Penn State football special teams player was seriously injured and his fiancée was killed in a recent hit-and-run accident.

Kyle Vasey, 30, and his fiancée, Corrine More, 35, were taking a walk in a Colorado neighborhood on June 1 when a driver allegedly ran his vehicle onto a sidewalk and hit the couple, killing More, and seriously injuring a third pedestrian. The driver reportedly fled the scene and was apprehended by police more than five miles away.

Police told CBS News that Adam Bauserman, 28, was operating his vehicle despite having his driver's license revoked following a DUI last year. Police charged Bauserman with several felonies, including vehicular homicide.

"He should never have been on the roadway, and as a result of that, somebody is now deceased," Douglas County Sheriff Darrin Weekly told CBS News, adding that Bauserman has a long history of license suspensions and revocations.

Vasey has undergone several surgeries since the accident, according to CBS News, and is at "substantial risk for permanent disfigurement or death," according to a doctor in the affidavit of probable cause.

Vasey graduated from Wallenpaupack High School on the Wayne and Pike county lines in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He was a long snapper for the Nittany Lion football team from 2014-18, starting his final two seasons. As a senior, he won Penn State's John Bruno Memorial Award as the team's top special teams player.

Vasey’s parents have started a GoFundMe page to help defray the extension medical costs during their son's hopeful recovery. The page reports that Vasey, who lives in the Denver, Colorado area, sustained three spinal fractures in the incident and has undergone six surgeries since.
