There are surely no hard feelings between Matt Campbell and Iowa State, seeing as how he led them to their best stretch of football in program history. But that won’t stop the two sides from dueling over recruits that they have both sent out offers to.

This is exactly the situation they find themselves in with the recruitment of three-star wide receiver Jaden Baldwin. The son of former NFL wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin was offered by Penn State more than two years ago, while the Cyclones sent an offer just over a month ago. Despite the enormous time gap between the offers, both schools are near the top of Baldwin’s list.

With his commitment date set for June 16, Baldwin is set to visit with Penn State, Iowa State, Colorado, and Pittsburgh at various points over the next month. Those are four of his top teams, so he is expected to do his due diligence with all of them before making his final decision.

It’s bad enough that the Nittany Lions have to battle Campbell’s old team for Baldwin, but the Buffaloes make his recruitment a whole new ballgame. They have landed some of the best prospects in the nation in recent years, most notably two-way superstar Travis Hunter, though they’ve lost some of their bargaining power since he and Shedeur Sanders moved on to the NFL.

However, the allure of playing for coach Deion Sanders is too strong for some players to pass up, so Colorado is always a threat to look out for. Penn State will have a little less than a month to convince Baldwin to join the Nittany Lions rather than running off to play for Iowa State or the Buffaloes.
