Former Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Yosh Nijman, who began his professional career as an undrafted free agent in Green Bay in 2019, announced his retirement from the NFL in a social media post on Thursday.
Nijman, 30, played seven NFL seasons, the first five in Green Bay with the Packers and the final two with the Carolina Panthers. He appeared in 99 games with 27 starts. Between the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Nijman started 21 games for the Packers at left or right tackle.
One of Nijman's final starts came at Lambeau Field during the Panthers' upset win over the Packers in Week 8 of last season.
"After seven incredible seasons in the NFL, I've decided it's time to officially step away from the game of football," Nijman wrote.
Nijman thanked fans of both the Packers and Panthers and said playing in front of the two fanbases was "truly special."
The Packers signed Nijman as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech in 2019. After spending his rookie season on the practice squad, Nijman emerged as a valuable backup and fill-in starter along the offensive line for the Packers over the next four seasons. He ended up playing 1,591 snaps on offense and another 341 on special teams while in Green Bay.
Nijman signed with the Panthers before the 2024 season. The Packers received a seventh-round compensatory pick in the 2025 draft for losing Nijman, and the team turned the pick into offensive lineman John Williams.
Nijman was a free agent after finishing his two-year deal with the Panthers.
