GREEN BAY – It didn’t take former Green Bay Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs long to land on his feet.

Hobbs signed a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million with the San Francisco 49ers, a source confirmed to PackersNews. The deal is less than his $6.25 million roster bonus the Packers had to pay to keep him on their 2026 roster and about half the $8.8 million he was scheduled to make from the team this season.

A year ago, Hobbs signed a four-year, $48 million contract with the Packers in free agency, but he had three separate knee injuries in his first season. When the Packers declined to pay his roster bonus March 10, he was released.

The Packers pivoted instead to cornerback Benjamin St-Juste, paying him a two-year, $10 million deal.

If Hobbs can stay healthy, he’ll have a chance to resurrect a career that took a big step backward because of injuries in the past year.

Hobbs is part of a larger remake of the Packers defense this week, including the departure of linebacker Quay Walker and defensive tackle Colby Wooden. In addition to St-Juste, the Packers have already replaced their outgoing free agents, signing defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and trading for linebacker Zaire Franklin.
