Former NBA guard warns Victor Wembanyama, Spurs before Game 4 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The 2026 NBA Finals took another controversial turn after Victor Wembanyama avoided further punishment for a shove on Jalen Brunson that went uncalled during Game 3.
The NBA later acknowledged that officials missed the foul, but the league chose not to issue a retroactive flagrant penalty. That decision drew criticism from Knicks fans and several media figures who questioned why no further action was taken.
Former NBA player and ESPN analyst Jay Williams voiced the frustration many New York supporters felt. Discussing the play on ESPN, Williams suggested the Knicks would not simply move on from the incident.
"Let somebody put their hands on me like that," Williams said.
"Let somebody put their hands on me like that. ... You have to respond. ... Look for multiple shots to be delivered to Wemby tonight in Game 4."

The play became a major talking point because it involved contact near Brunson's head. While physical play is expected in the Finals, many observers believed the missed call crossed a line, especially given the stakes of the series.
Williams argued that players often police situations themselves when they feel officials fail to do so.
"You have to respond," he added.
His comments added another layer to the conversation surrounding Game 4. The Knicks have built their identity around toughness, and many expect them to match San Antonio's physical approach as they try to even the series.
The decision not to assess a retroactive flagrant also carried added significance. Wembanyama entered the game with two flagrant-foul points this postseason, meaning additional discipline would have moved him closer to a suspension.
That backdrop only adds to the tension surrounding Game 4. Madison Square Garden is expected to be at its loudest, with both teams fighting for control of a series that has become increasingly physical.
As Williams put it: "Look for multiple shots to be delivered to Wemby tonight in Game 4."
What began as a debate over a missed call has now become one of the biggest storylines of the Finals.
