Former Kentucky point guard Tonie Morgan signs a WNBA contract

Former Kentucky Wildcats women's basketball star Tonie Morgan's WNBA career didn't get off to the best start. She was drafted with the 32nd overall pick by the Chicago Sky, an exciting next step for her. However, they waived her over the summer, dealing a setback to her professional dreams. Fortunately for her, she's getting another chance.

The Los Angeles Sparks announced this week that they had signed Morgan to a developmental contract. She will take the team's final available roster spot, bringing their total to 12 players and 2 with developmental deals.

Sparks GM Zach Knowlton had this to say about signing Morgan:

We’re excited to welcome Tonie to the Sparks organization. She is a dynamic playmaker who has consistently the ability to elevate those around her. Her competitiveness, court vision and feel for the game make her an excellent addition to our development program, and we look forward to helping her continue to grow.

Last season, with Kentucky, Morgan was a big party of the Wildcats' success. She averaged 13.8 points and 7.9 assists, which led the SEC. She also produced one of the year's biggest highlights with a last second three-pointer to beat the LSU Tigers.
