MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Former University of Kansas basketball player Lagerald Vick has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after police say he shot a man during a July 4 party in Frayser.
Vick, who was a standout player at Douglass High School before playing for the Jayhawks from 2015 to 2019, was booked into the Shelby County Jail Saturday.

According to an affidavit, Memphis Police responded to Regional One early July 5 after a man arrived with a gunshot wound to his back.
Police say the victim told investigators he was attending a party at the Greenbriar Apartments in the 3100 block of Madewell Drive when he got into a verbal confrontation with a man carrying a handgun.
The affidavit states the victim tried to leave the situation, but the suspect followed him and fired one shot, striking him in the lower right side of his back. The suspect then ran from the scene, according to police.
Investigators say the victim later identified Vick as the person responsible during a photographic lineup.
Vick is charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
According to arrest records, Vick’s bond is set at $1.5 million. He is scheduled for arraignment Monday, July 13, and a bail review hearing Tuesday.
