The New York Jets hired former Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator in 2023. The idea was to appease incoming quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who previously worked with Hackett in Green Bay with the Packers.
Rodgers suffered the Achilles injury mere plays into his Jets debut and the offense struggled.
Rodgers returned in 2024 with Hackett as his coordinator. Hackett's offense still didn't meet expectations. The offense finished 24th in yards (310.3) and 24th in scoring (19.9) per game. Rodgers was released at the conclusion of the season and the entire coaching staff was fired.
Hackett spent the 2025 season back in Green Bay as a "defensive analyst" for the Packers. Well, he's back coaching in the AFC East division.
Hackett has been hired by new Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley as the quarterbacks position coach, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano:
Hackett and Hafley were together on the Packers' staff this past season. They technically worked directly together, with Hafley as the defensive coordinator, and Hackett serving in a defensive analyst role. The existing relationship helped.
Hackett inherits a difficult assignment in Miami as the quarterbacks coach. The Dolphins may have a new quarterback after benching Tua Tagovailoa in 2025.
Jets fans aren't scared to see Hackett back coaching in the division.
