The New York Jets waived kicker Younghoe Koo and signed veteran Jason Sanders in a corresponding move on Wednesday. Koo, 31, has struggled to find a home since being released by the Atlanta Falcons early in the 2025 NFL season.
Over his six-plus years in Atlanta, Koo converted 178 of 205 field-goal attempts and 166 of 173 extra-point in 89 starts. Despite making a Pro Bowl during his time with the Falcons, things started to go south for Koo in 2024 when he ended the season on the injured reserve list due to a leg injury.
In Week 1 of the 2025 season, Koo missed a potential game-tying field goal against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons ended the season in a three-way tie for first place with the Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers, so it was an especially critical miss.
The Falcons released Koo a few weeks later and he later landed on the New York Giants practice squad. Koo appeared in five games for the Giants last season, making four out of six field goals and 11 out of 12 extra points.
Koo will likely be a free agent again if he clears waivers.
