Cathedral Prep graduate Andrew Costello took a chance and graduated early to get his college baseball career started at Wake Forest.
The standout had a breakout season hitting .244 with four home runs as he started 32 games for the Demon Deacons.
Costello, however, announced earlier this week that he is transferring to South Carolina. Wake Forest associate head coach Bill Cilento recently left Wake Forest to become the hitting coach at South Carolina.
Costello was projected to go in the first few rounds of the upcoming MLB draft out of high school but chose to graduate early and play at Wake Forest. Players at four-year colleges are eligible for the draft after their junior year or when they turned 21 years old.

Costello, a catcher, is currently playing in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League and through seven games, he leads the league with a 1.234 OPS. He is hitting .478 with two doubles, two home runs, two RBIs and has scored five times.
Also playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League is former Cathedral Prep star Jason Fultz Jr. The corner infielder started 34 of 40 games and hit .231 with 24 walks and drove in 13 runs.
Fultz Jr., a freshman, entered the transfer portal after the season but has not yet picked a new school.
