For the second-consecutive year, former BYU All-American Lexy Halladay won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. track and field championships in New York.
Halladay, the BYU school record-holder in the steeplechase, ran away from the field, beating runner-up Gabbi Jennings by five seconds. Halladay’s time was 9:12.54; Jennings 9:17.42.
Courtney Wayment, another former BYU athlete, placed fifth, in 9:19.90. Lexi Goff, who recently completed her fourth season at BYU, was 11th (9:48.16).
Dan Michalski, who trains under BYU coach Ed Eyestone, placed fourth in the steeplechase with a time of 8:17.78, while James Corrigan, BYU’s 2025 NCAA champion and 2024 Olympian, finished seventh with a time of 8:21.05. Former BYU NCAA champion Kenneth Rooks didn’t qualify for the final, ending his bid to win his fourth-consecutive U.S. championship.
Carter Cutting, who won the mile at the NCAA indoor championships last winter, finished 12th in an embarrassingly slow, tactical 1,500-meter final that was settled by a frantic homestretch sprint. The top 12 runners finished within less than two seconds apart. Nathan Green won the race with a time of 3:50.27 — the rough equivalent of a 4:07 mile — and Cutting was timed in 3:51.65.
Sami Oblad, another former BYU athlete, was ninth in the 400-meter dash final with a time of 52.66.
