The former head coach of the Cleveland Browns may have the inside track on his next job.
At the VRBO Fiesta Bowl, ESPN caught Jaxson Dart, the New York Giants franchise quarterback, speculating on who will be his next head coach. Dart was there to support Ole Miss as they battled the Miami Hurricanes. Dart also answered questions from friends. Dart was asked about his next coach, and he possibly said, “Harbaugh or Stefanski… I don’t know.” While Dart wasn’t caught on a hot mic, Stefanski’s name is easy to spot for the most rudimentary lip readers.
Stefanski has been the rumored preferred candidate for the Giants. The Giants fired their former head coach, Brian Daboll, in November. They’ve had months to set the groundwork for their coaching search. They had Stefanski in for an interview on Wednesday. According to the New York Post, Stefanski’s interview went well. It’ll be interesting to see whether Dart was speculating based on media reports or was told something by someone at the top of the organization. We should know soon.
If hired by the Giants, Stefanski will be in for a culture shock in New York City. The Giants are a dysfunctional organization like the Browns. Cleveland used to be a nasty rumor mill before Stefanski. Coaches and the front office would swipe at each other through the media. Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry’s tight-lipped approach to the team has incurred the wrath of the beat writers but brought a new level of professionalism to the Browns. Stefanski won’t be able to control the narrative in New York as he could in Cleveland.
It’ll be interesting to see how he adjusts if he gets the job. Until the Giants announce their next head coach, we’ll be forced to follow their quarterback.

Not a lip reader but...
