For the first time since he was selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tua Tagovailoa will be playing for a team other than the Miami Dolphins. And it may end up being a better fit for him.
Tagovailoa was signed by the Atlanta Falcons this offseason, who also welcomed a new head coach in Kevin Stefanski. Stefanski won NFL Coach of the Year twice during his recent tenure with the Browns, so he knows a thing or two about winning. And for fans hopeful that the fresh start for Tagovailoa will help him finally find his footing in the league once again, they may be in luck.
When Stefanski was asked this week about passing accuracy with his quarterbacks, particularly Tagovailoa, he responded by highlighting how important a trait it is for an NFL quarterback, and giving some special shine to the seventh-year NFL veteran.
"It's the most important trait at the position," Stefanski said. "Some guys get better at it, with tweaks to how they throw the ball, tweaks to their lower body, but their is an innate ability, and all of our guys have this, all of our quarterbacks have this, to be able to let the ball go and it's going where you want it to go...I think Tua, in his career, as you've seen, just has that innate, God given ability."
Tagovailoa will likely compete with Michael Penix Jr. for the starting role, who was the team's starter before suffering a season-ending injury after nine games last year.
