Cam Eden, whose brief MLB career consisted of five games with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2023, announced his retirement on his Instagram account.

“I recently retired from baseball and I wanted to say thank you so much to every person that coached, helped, encouraged, and supported me,” Eden posted on May 23. “Like most things in life, you can’t do it on your own. My accomplishments in baseball are very much due to other amazing and selfless people. Even just encouraging messages from family, friends or strangers meant a lot. You don’t know how something so simple made an impact!

“I’m forever grateful for everyone. I love you all!”

Eden, 28, was traded by the Blue Jays to the New York Yankees for cash on Aug. 8, 2024. In 23 games with the Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to end the 2024 season, he slashed .231/.286/.385.

But he was not invited to the Yankees’ spring training camp in 2025, as he was with the Blue Jays in 2024. He proceeded to spend the first two months of the season on the minor league injured list.

The Yankees assigned Eden to Double-A Somerset in June. He slashed .176/.247/.270 in 26 games last summer for the Patriots, then was released in August. Eden hasn’t appeared in a professional game since.

In 245 Triple-A games, Eden stole 86 bases in 98 attempts. He also hit 11 home runs, scored 116 runs and drove in 86.

A native of Northern California, Eden, played collegiately at UC Berkeley. The Jays selected him in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

After losing the 2020 minor league season to the COVID-19 pandemic, Eden made a name for himself during a breakout 2023 season at Triple-A Buffalo. When he received his only big-league promotion that September, he led the Bisons with 53 stolen bases in 131 games.

With the Blue Jays, Eden went 1-for-6 with a single and two strikeouts. He scored once, as a pinch runner in the Jays’ 7-6 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sept. 23, 2023.
