Mac Jones has had a rollercoaster NFL career thus far since leaving the Alabama Crimson Tide. After looking like the heir apparent to Tom Brady when he was drafted by the New England Patriots, a lot has changed for him.

Since being drafted at No. 15 overall by the Patriots in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Jones has already played for three teams. He spent his first three seasons in New England before playing the 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the 2025 campaign with the San Francisco 49ers.

Last season, Jones seemed to find his footing in Kyle Shanahan's offense. He filled in for Brock Purdy admirably, playing in 11 games throughout the 2025 season and completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Throughout the course of the 2026 NFL offseason, Jones has been a hot topic in the NFL rumor mill.

With other quarterbacks like Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones finding new life in their second chance as a starter, Jones has become a player who many think could do the same. He has been linked as a trade target for quite a few different teams this offseason.

Keeping that in mind, Jones has spoken out and made some strong comments about his NFL future. He is very clearly happy with his role on the 49ers.

"I think this is my No. 1 question that I've been asked," Jones said of the trade rumors.

"Look, I love (49ers general manger) John (Lynch), I love (49ers coach) Kyle (Shanahan), the York family. It's the best organization I feel like that I've played for in terms of just top-to-bottom greatness, so far, and I don't like leaving good people. I hope they enjoy having me there."

He continued on, doubling down on his desire to stay in San Francisco.

"I'm excited for this year, to be honest. A lot of that was offseason talk. Anything's possible, right? I mean, the trade deadline's not until a little bit through the season. But I try not to keep up with it. I really just want to keep getting better. … I played decent last year. I think I can play a lot better, which is what I'm striving to do this summer -- improve on my technique and see if that helps me and elevates me to get a big deal or something in the future. I always say be where your feet are. My feet are in San Francisco, and I like it a lot."

At the end of the day, there is no question that Jones would love to be a starter again. He will become a free agent at the end of the 2026 season and could be a trade deadline candidate as well.

That being said, he's not pushing for a trade. Jones is simply focused on making the most of his current opportunity.

Looking back at his career with Alabama, Jones played in three season for the Crimson Tide. He threw for 6,126 yards, 56 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions, while completing 74.3 percent of his pass attempts.

Hopefully, Jones continues finding success at the NFL level. After a rough start to his career, he deserves to find stability and another opportunity to lead a franchise.
