Foote and Sharper: Does anyone else get the sense that we're going after these two?

I mean, look at it logically. We've done our damndest over the last few years to not get desperate moving towards the draft, to not force ourselves to draft for need (I think Levi Brown is the last pick that really fits that desperate logic). Sure, we've had luck with Wells falling to us last year, but we have tried to make sure we have vets in place to start at positions of need.

So, as we head into the offseason, we know that Dansby and Rolle are likely gone. It LOOKS like we don't have a plan. We don't shell out large amounts of money in FA, so we're probably doomed now on defense.

Look at both Foote and Sharper, though. They are very good veteran players...not superstars, but very good. And they can be had for reasonable contracts. The reason they'll probably be available is that they want multi-year contracts. We can give them that. We will NEED players at that position to start while we get youngsters groomed to take over.

The caveat is that they're older than the playes we typically like to take on. Still and all, I think the FO overlooks that and brings these guys in. Then, we'll be able to draft without need pressing against our throats, and do what we do best: draft BPA.

I like them both but I think the Cards would go after Foote but not Sharper. It is all but certain that Dansby is gone and I think the team is going to make an honest effort to restructure Rolle's contract. Granted Foote is not the ILB Dansby is, he would be a decent replacement. He'll only be 30 at the start of the season.

Sharper will be 35 and will be nothing but duct tape at safety if Rolle leaves.

Sharper has always impressed me. Wasn't the guy in the running for Defensive Player of the Year....and he doesn't want 30 mill guaranteed or 20 million a year?

I'd take Sharper in a heartbeat.

Sharper is awesome imho and has not lost a step. See him in the playoffs this year? looked like the late 90's/early 00's packers version to me.

BTW here's his stats
63 INTS
1,412 YDS
99 LNG
11 TD
8 FF

I think I'd love him next to Wilson. (although I want to keep Rolle as well).

I agree 100%. If we are starting Foote and Hayes at ILB in week 1 we are going to be pretty terrible on defense.

Would you rather start Hayes and Highsmith at ILB in week 1? Or would you rather have Hayes and Foote listed as starters, and IF a solid, 1st-year starting quality ILB is on our board AND is the BPA (that's a lot of IFs and qualifications, huh), then we can draft him and use Foote as depth?

For myself, I'd rather we had more options instead of less.

Of course, I argued against this exact same position when talking about Jimmy Kennedy, who I simply don't want, so take it with a grain of salt :)

I would consider starting Wilson, Rolle and Sharper together...Let Wilson be a hybrid LB/S...Line him up within 10 Yards of the LOS at all times and let him cover TE's. He's not very good in Pass Coverage against WR's but I think he can hold his own against most TE's.

Anyway, just a thought.

In short, no.

I don't think this team is targeting any bigger names out there.

Exactly why I hypothesize that we will go after Foote and Sharper; their names don't carry big $$$ attached to them. That's what I think of when we say we aren't going after the big names or splashes.

If we cut Rolle I wouldn't be against sharper, even though I think he is overrated in coverage. He's a center fielder, he will either get a pick or get caught with his pants down. If Rashad is still adjusting to the NFL and the coaches aren't confident in him then we could definitely do worse than DS, so why not.

Sharper wouldn't look too good with us IMO. Playing on the same field as A-Dub isn't going to put you in centerfield very often.

How do you think Keith Bulluck measures up to Foote in terms of skill, treadlife and cost?

With an ACL tear that just happened in week 15 of this past year on a 33 year old body. I dont think he measure up would be even close IMO. Although I am not a fan of Foote and only see him as a one year stop gap he is my clear favorite if I had to pick between the two.

Ask Greg Olsen how ADub is covering TEs.

If we are going after anyone is it Jerry Porter based on what has previously been stated. If we somehow signed Foote, Porter, and Sharper (assuming a deal with Rolle can't be worked out), it would be the best free agency in Cardinal history. In short, it isn't going to happen.

An Average LB, An old Average stop gap pass rusher(I dont call him a LB because a LB plays all phases of the game Porter refuses to play against the run), and a 35 year old stop gap FS who has had 1 good season over the last 4 seasons. That would be our best FA in Cardinal History? Just goes to show how lacking our FA's have been I guess.
