If you want elite wide receivers, go to Florida.
Ohio State's Carnell Tate (IMG Academy) could be the first receivers taken in the upcoming NFL Draft, fellow Buckeye receiver Jeremiah Smith (Chaminade-Madonna) arguably is the most talented college football player in the nation and Miami's Malachi Toney (American Heritage) dominated as a true freshman.
It's nothing new. Florida has always produced elite skill position players. Pro Football Hall of Famers Michael Irvin, Andre Johnson, Isaac Bruce and Devin Hester are some of the talented players to come from Florida.
The class of 2027 is shaping up to be another elite wide receiver group from the Sunshine State.
For proof, look no further than the USA Today Florida Network pre-spring top 100. The top 100 is USA Today's annual list of the top senior recruits in the state.
Five of the top nine players on the list are wide receivers. The group is led by Carol City's Nick Lennear (No. 3), and IMG's Eric McFarland (No. 4) and Osani Gayles (No. 7). St. Thomas Aquinas standout Julius Jones (No. 8) and Godby's Jamarin Simmons (No. 9) also are in the top 10.
St. Thomas Aquinas All-American offensive tackle Mark Matthews is No. 1 on the top 100. Matthews is the first offensive lineman to start the year atop the USA Today Florida top 100.
