Florida football is set to hire Rusty Whitt as its new strength and conditioning coach, according to a report from the Orlando Sentinel. Whitt's name adds to the list of new coaching hires under head coach Jon Sumrall.

With decades of experience contributing to strength and conditioning programs, Whitt previously served on Sumrall's staff with the Tulane Green Wave and Troy as strength and conditioning director over the last four seasons.

He's had stints serving at Army, Texas Tech, Louisiana, Rice, Sam Houston State, Louisville and William and Mary. In 1997, Whitt was the speed and agility coordinator for the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

Whitt also served as a communications sergeant in the 10th Special Forces Group of the United States Army and is credited with developing and creating a pre-deployment conditioning program for his Special Forces Team during his deployment to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) V and VI.

The Orlando Sentinel also included in their report that Jesse Ackerman, Florida's associate director of player performance, will be retained. He began his second stint with the Orange and Blue ahead of the 2024 season, after serving as Florida's assistant director of strength and conditioning from 2012 to 2014.

Ackerman also spent five seasons with the Atlanta Falcons as their head strength and conditioning coach from 2016 to 2020.
