Florida softball sophomore outfielder Taylor Shumaker earned a spot in the U.S. Women's National Team Athlete Pool, USA Softball announced earlier this week.
She joins fellow Gators Jocelyn Erickson and Skylar Wallace in the 36-member athlete pool. Amanda Lorenz, who was originally named to the group in April, is currently on leave while expecting her first child, making room for Shumaker on the roster.
The Fullerton, California, native started all 64 games for the Gators in right field or center field in 2026 and put on one of the top offensive performances in program history, posting a .445 batting average — the second-highest single-season mark in program history — while leading the team in doubles (19), walks (47), hits (93), on-base percentage (.544), and multi-hit games (31). Shumaker finished the season ranked second in the nation with a program-record 92 runs scored, while also finishing fourth nationally in total hits.
Her efforts earned her numerous accolades, including D1 Softball and Softball America First Team All-American honors, selection to the All-SEC First Team, and a top-25 finish in the USA Softball Player of the Year voting.
The WNT Athlete Pool will be used to select the 2026 USA Softball Women's National Team, which will compete at the World Baseball Softball Confederation World Cup Group Stage and the 2026 USA Softball International Cup. The pool will also serve as the foundation for the program throughout the 2025-28 Olympic quadrennial.
