Flagstaff weather

I swear, the last 4 or 5 times I've traveled over for games, I 40/17 have been like a hockey rink.... ice/snow/freezing cold. My wife is white knuckles and does Buddha chants or something to keep from freaking out. Looks like there's another storm and I do know the usual on-line weather camera/ travel report hotlines, etc. but I do like to have eye witness reports.

Last year I cut off at Holbrook and went through Payson, but it was just as bad or worse through there. I hit fallen rocks, had a blowout, had to change a tire in the bar ditch and then dig my truck out... no fun there. I've also done the Tucson route, but it adds a couple hours.

I'd appreciate some kind of update from someone who lives there. I'm leaving Albuquerque in the morning and I'm hoping for the best.

Cards 27- Colts any score less than that. They usually win when I'm there, so there's that going for them...

My brother is in Los Lunas - last time I drove back from there in December there was a massive storm that ended up shutting down the freeway around Flagstaff

Anticipating that we cut down to Socorro and took the US 60 over to the 260 into Payson and then down and across ......... we were dry and fine until near Payson where we picked up a good amount of rain all the way into Phoenix

Definitely took a little longer than a good weather 40/17 route - definitely shorter than getting stuck on a closed freeway and also shorter than running down through Tucson

The interstates were passable all day today. Snow early this morning that turned into rain after nine am or so. It all depends on whether it turns back to snow tonight and how much falls. It was still raining as of 7 pm. My guess is that the snow level will mostly stay about town and the interstates will be alright be alright when you come through. Obviously call 511 and if you can get on Flagscanner on facebook, that has the most real time traffic info. Better than 511. Hope its a great trip to see a great Cardinals victory.

The local paper is saying 3-5 inches starting early saturday morning through the day. Road conditions could be sketchy at times throughout the day on Saturday. Be careful. To me it doesn't seem like the kind of thing that will close the freeway, but you never know.

Head south in Holbrook off the 40 to the 260 thru Heber & Payson, less chance of snow

I've made that drive many times, during the winter, and I would be very surprised if you have much trouble regardless of the route you take tomorrow. I always take the Holbrook to Payson route, it saves time and is a nicer drive.

So as of this morning, we picked up another couple inches during the night. Its snowing lightly right now. ADOT just put up a picture of I-17 open, with some snow on the road, however it doesn't look snowpacked. As far as I can tell from the weather channel future cast it looks like intermittent snow all day. Not an ideal travel day for sure but it looks doable, if the weather gods don't suddenly team up on you. Be safe.

Good job buddy. I never had any doubt. For some reason whenever you go on your Cardinal victory tour, it brings on the first winter storm of our season. It never stops you though. The trip back should be a little easier.
