After stepping out of a taxi in front of Husky Stadium, it didn't take long for five-star edge rusher Jalanie George to appear impressed with what Washington has to offer.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound edge rusher from Desert Edge High School in Arizona, who is ranked as the No. 2 player in the nation and No. 1 edge rusher in the 2028 class, spun around a few times to take in the sights from his first unofficial visit to Montlake for Washington's Junior Day weekend before heading into the facilities, and it didn't take him long to figure out he wants to return to Seattle.
"It was my first time up there, and I didn't really have a lot of expectations going in there, but once I got there and met with the coaches, I can see why it's such a great program to be part of with the culture there and all of the things they have to offer," George told Dawgman.com's Scott Eklund.
"I think the biggest thing that stuck out to me was my one-on-one with (defensive line) coach (Jason) Kaufusi. He has this thing that he calls his 'secret weapon'. It's basically a blueprint of how he's going to develop you and what he sees for you in the future."
George, who holds 29 offers from all over the country, with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, LSU, Miami, Ohio State, and Texas among the programs in pursuit of his services, will return to Montlake in the fall for a game-day visit, as Jedd Fisch's coaching staff has done a great job developing a relationship with the nation's highest-rated underclassman defender.
"Productive front-line defender with a promising frame," 247Sports' Andrew Ivins wrote in George's evaluation. "Instinctive against the run and will slide off blocks to make stops...Still developing pass-rush cadence, but can hound QBs with length and burst...Not one to bail on a play and will clean up the trash."
As the Huskies look to continue upgrading their defensive line, George is the type of player who could bring a major boost to Washington from his first day on campus after recording 54 tackles, 16 for loss, with 6.5 sacks, 2 pass breakups, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery during his sophomore year. UW is also in the process of establishing a pipeline to Desert Edge, with Fisch holding a commitment from four-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney in the 2027 class, who was in Seattle for the weekend alongside George and four-star quarterback Blake Roskopf.
