This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
YALE — By executing one postseason inning to offensive perfection, the Richmond High School baseball team gets to play seven more.
A five-run third inning bolstered the Blue Devils past Goodrich, 7-0, in an MHSAA Division 2 regional semifinal at Yale High School on Wednesday, June 3.
They improved to 24-2 overall and advanced to the regional final against Frankenmuth.
"It was a pressure game," Richmond coach Scott Evans said. "We did some things (early in the game) that were very uncharacteristic of us. We gave away more at-bats today than we have all year ... but when we started getting some decent at-bats, we started swinging at strikes and attacking strikes."
Once the bottom of the third inning arrived, those attacks gradually delivered results.
The scoreless tie was broken when Dominic Bonnetti hit an RBI single to right field. That sent Logan Evans home from third base.
Moments later, after Bonnetti stole second, Jaxon Distelrath drove him in on a double down the right-field line.
Leading 2-0, Richmond was far from finished.

Joey Joudi drew a bases-loaded walk for the third run. That was followed by a bunt single from John Swamba. Finally, Cam Sutherland scored from third base on a fielder's choice.
"We're a very gritty team," Joudi said. "We knew, if we stick to (the right approach at the plate), it would eventually be our inning to come around. We stuck to our guns and it worked out."
Meanwhile, Blue Devils starting pitcher Cameron Murray was in the midst of a superb performance.
"I felt amazing (on the mound today)," Murray said. "Coming into this game, I knew it was going to be a difficult one to win. But, if I got my best stuff, then (it gives us a chance). So, that's what I stuck with."
The regional final is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, at Sanborn Park in Port Huron.
