Cooper Zachary of Fishers is the boys basketball Athlete of the Year as voted by the Hoosier Crossroads Conference coaches.
Zachary, a junior guard, has helped the Tigers to three consecutive HCC titles, including a 25-game conference winning streak. He averaged 15.0 points, 5.3 assists and 2.9 steals per game as a junior, leading the Tigers to a 24-1 season.
Zachary played a key role on Fishers’ Class 4A state championship as a freshman and state runner-up showing as a sophomore. The Tigers are 83-3 overall in Zachary’s three seasons.
“Cooper is one of the toughest players I have had the privilege to coach,” Fishers coach Garrett Winegar said. “Above all, he is a winner. He is 83-3 as a starting point guard. Midway through his junior year he had already set the school record in career threes, steals and assists. Even with all those records, so much of what he does to impact winning does not show up on the stat sheet. He does more on the floor to impact winning than anyone in the state. On top of everything he does on the floor, he is a great kid, a great leader and a great student.”
This is Zachary’s second first-team all-conference selection. He was named second team as a freshman. Here is the full All-HCC team:
