Lance LaCombe of Jacksonville capped a First Coast sweep of three divisions of the Azalea Amateur at the Palatka Golf Club.

LaCombe defeated Drew Miller of East Lansing, Mich., in a playoff to win the 69th Azalea Amateur on March 22, after both finished 54-holes of regulation at 3-under 207. LaCombe won two weeks after two St. Augustine residents, Ambrose Kinnare and Sophia Cavanagh, won their division in the Junior Azalea.

And Ambrose, a sophomore at Tocoi Creek, came close to sweeping both tournaments. He tied for third in the Azalea with Jack Irons of Naples and Micah Sheffer of Brownstown, Ind., one shot out of the playoff.

Kinnare posted rounds of 68-68―136 to win the Junior Azalea by five shots over Jack Rossheim of Palm Coast. Cavanagh, a Nease senior, shot 76-71―147 to win the girls division by two shots over Danielle Dailey of St. Augustine, a senior at St. Joseph Academy.

That wasn't all: Rafael de Carvalho of Ponte Vedra Beach, who tied for eighth at 7-over, had one of golf's rarities in the first round. He made a hole-in-one at the par-4 13th hole, using a driver from 285 yards out on the downhill hole.

The nomination period will run through July 31 and will be accepted in four categories:

  • Male Competitor: Players must be 45 or older or retired from competition for three or more years at the time of the ceremony. First-time eligible players include Justin Rose, Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia.
  • Female Competitor: Players also must be 45 or older or retired from competition for three or more years at the time of the ceremony. First-time eligible players include Suzann Pettersen.

  • Historic Player/Amateur: Competitors who accomplished the majority of their wins either more than 50 years ago from the year of the upcoming induction ceremony (pre-1977) or as amateurs.

“By making nominations open to the public, we believe golf fans will be more invested in the process and it will ensure that all worthy candidates are considered for the Class of 2027," said Mike Trostel, director of the World Golf Hall of Fame, in a statement.

Fans can get more information and fill out an online nominating form by visiting worldgolfhalloffame.org.

Candidates will be reviewed by a nominating committee, which will meet in August and September and narrow the nominees to 12 finalists.

The 24-member selection committee will vote on the final class. Each nominee must receive at least 75 percent of the vote (18).

The 2027 Induction Ceremony will take place on July 12, 2027, in St Andrews, Scotland, during the week of The Open Championship.
