The New York Jets aren't among the eight NFL teams looking to fill a head coaching vacancy, but they are looking to hire a new defensive coordinator. Aaron Glenn is overseeing the process after both Steve Wilks and Chris Harris failed to perform adequately in the role throughout 2025. Simply put, the Jets defense was an abomination and must show drastic improvement next season.
All these coaching changes around the NFL is providing the Jets with potential targets who weren't believed to be initially available. For example, the Arizona Cardinals fired head coach Jonathan Gannon. Gannon should emerge as a candidate the Jets are interested in speaking with.
Gannon emerged as one of the hottest head coaching candidates in the league after coordinating an Eagles defense in 2022 that registered a historic 70 sacks. By comparison, the Jets had 26 sacks, not even half of the Eagles' 2022 total, this past season.
Gannon compiled a head coaching record of 15-36 across three campaigns in charge of the Cardinals. That'll get anyone fired, but their defense was always respectable despite a lack of high-end talent. Gannon will have suitors as a defensive coordinator, but the Jets should make contact to try and convince him to come coach in East Rutherford.
