ELKHART LAKE – Ferrari Challenge North America will return to Road America in Elkhart Lake on Sept. 12-13, giving spectators a chance to watch Ferrari competition and explore the brand's racing history at the Wisconsin road course.
According to a community announcement, the event has been added to Road America's schedule and will be open to the public.
Ferrari's ties to Elkhart Lake date to the community's earliest road races. Jim Kimberly won the feature race on the original public-road circuit in a Ferrari 166 MM in 1950. When Road America opened in 1955, Phil Hill drove a Ferrari 750 Monza to victory in the track's first feature race. Hill later won the Formula One world championship driving for Ferrari.
Carroll Shelby added to that history by winning the first June Sprints in 1956 in a Ferrari 121 LM. Ferrari race cars have continued appearing at Road America through endurance racing, professional sports car events, vintage competitions and club racing.
Ferrari Challenge last raced at Road America in September 2023. The series' return marks its first appearance at the track in three years.
Now in its 33rd season, Ferrari Challenge is one of the world's premier customer racing championships. Road America will host the penultimate round of the North American season before the Finali Mondiali at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in November.
The event also will feature the FAT Karting League at the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex. The arrive-and-drive program serves racers ages 5 to 17 and was co-founded by former Ferrari Formula 1 engineer Rob Smedley and Ferdi Porsche.
Additional on-track activity will include Club Competizioni GT and Club Challenge entries. Guests will have open paddock access and can participate in an evening sunset cruise on the circuit in their own vehicles.
